Fumbbl – Getting started

Fumbbl – Getting started

Yea, it’s been awhile for a variety of reasons. Mainly just not having the hobby time lately. I had a short painting stint, which I pretty much regretted, but hopefully time frees up and things start to click again soon.

Anyways, last post I had talked about playing Fumbbl and promised I would put up a “How-To” by me. I don’t know that this is the best way to get a game started or setup a small tourney with friends (which is what we wanted). It will at least get you into a game. Given that our first experience with Fumbbl, was mainly fumbling around with the interface, I figure this has got to help. We didn’t find things as intuitive as I was hoping and trying to get things setup with someone remotely makes it even more challenging. I have endured worse though.

Hopefully this will help those who might be interested in trying Fumbbl out. Note, the list is long, mainly because I wanted to be thorough. It’s not too hard once you get your teams made and a tournament setup (if that’s what you want).

If it’s your own team, they will automatically be added. If it’s a friend’s team, they will need to accept the invite. I think they are sent a message, or they can navigate to their team to accept.

Create a Tournament:
Click the “Home” tab
Click the “Overview” sub-link
Click the name of your Group, under Leagues and Tournaments
Click “Tournaments”
Click “Create a new Tournament”
Enter “Name”
Select “Style” (we use Open Round Robin)
Click “Create”
For Open Round Robin Tournaments, you can also setup Scoring modifiers (click “Configure” on the Tournaments page to see the options)
Back on the Tournaments page, click “Start Tournament” once all your teams have been invited.

Starting a Game:
Click the “Home” tab
Click the “Overview” sub-link
Find the team you want to play and click the “Play” link to the right.
A java file will download, open it.
Enter a Password.
Let your buddy know the password.
Buddy clicks their “Home” tab
Buddy clicks the “Overview” sub-link
Buddy finds the team they want to play and click sthe “Play” link to the right.
A java file will download, they should open it, and enter the password you gave them.

At this point you should both be in the game, and will be prompted for inducements or to pick heads or tails to decide the kickoff.
