We got a Knight, in a nice knightly pose. The other two appear to be some robed travelers. I thought the paint colors were interesting here, suggesting some early mid-eastern civilizations. I imagine the latter two were likely used as townsfolk, random NPCs in our roleplaying and dungeon crawler games. The knight is a bit smaller scale, was likely used as a henchman, guard, etc.
I tried finding the two ‘townsfolk’, but no luck, and they aren’t my favorite minis. Plus, I’m prepping this post to launch while we head out for a bit of vacation, which brings us to this next tangent…
Tangent – The Best Vacation
The family will be heading off for a mini-vacation for a few days. About the time this post hits, I’ll be up on Orcas Island in Washington. Drinking some pilsner and eating delicious Penn Cove mussels. Prefaced by a geek pilgrimage to the Seattle Museum of Pop Culture, to check out the Marvel Comics exhibit (https://www.mopop.org/marvel). We will also venture around downtown Seattle for a bit. My other geeky wish (you can tell I’m going to milk this birthday for all I can, right?!) is to drop by a martial arts store I saw on a previous trip. I’ve always wanted to own a pair of sais, and they had some. Plus I don’t have any nunchakus or kamas anymore. Yea, I really need to decorate the office, haha! Let’s see who talks me out of that wild idea first, myself or wife. Once we’re at Orcas, we will be surrounded by nature. It’s so relaxing up there, and it’s nice to get far away.

How many countries have you been to? Do you like road trips? Do you like cruises? Do you like to ride rocket ships to other planets? Are you trapped in a Necromunda Hive and can’t get out?

Nice post. Having just got back from holiday I guess it’s hard to ignore your questions! OK, when I was younger wild and adventurous worked for me, I liked back packing, but now I’m old in the tooth I enjoy ocean cruises where someone else does the driving and each day we get to see something new without having to pack and unpack. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like the food and drink on board too. Yes I like to see other countries and cultures and at a best guess would say I’ve notched about 30 something countries with grand plans to do a lot more if I live long enough!

I probably have a bias towards English speaking countries and feel I could happily live in parts of Canada, USA and Australia. The Bernese Overland in Switzerland is probably the one place I’ve gone back to the most, simply stunning. Iceland where I’ve just come back from has to be the wierdest place so far although I loved it and Russia was the most pleasently surprising. Food, I’ll pretty much eat anything as long as it’s dead!

I haven’t traveled much abroad, but I have been to China. My experience was a bit different, as we stayed with my wife’s family, and I got to experience more than what a tourist normally would. Quite a culture shock.

Nice way to see China. Asia is an area I have little knowledge of but it’s on the list along with South America I hope.

It’s huge, and we tend to lump it all into one thing, but there’s such a variety of ethnicities and cultures there. If you like spicy, tasty food, then I’d definitely recommend Chengdu, which is where my wife hails from.

Those other two really look like they took some biblical inspiration. Moses, the Three Wise Men, that sort of thing. Could just be the paint jobs, but I feel like the sculpt was going there already.
I haven’t been up to Orcas in something like 20 years. There was a family friend who had some substantial property up there, and we’d go camping on his land. Nice island, but I’ve always had my opinion on it distorted by the fact that I’ve never really enjoyed camping.
Honestly, if relaxation is my goal, I’m staying at home. Travel is interesting, and can be a lot of fun, but I need familiarity for it to really feel like a break. I did an exchange in Germany for my last chunk of college, and then kicked around there, the UK, and the Netherlands for a while after. It was fun, but damn I was happy to get back home after.

I like the staycations when work is busy and whatnot. Though with a crazy toddler these days, I’m starting to see why getting out of the house is necessary.

It probably would be different with a toddler around. I know I start hitting my limit after a few hours around my brother’s kids (2 1/2 and 5). Also, I have to say, as much as I like the concept, I really can’t stand the word “staycation”. Not even entirely sure why it bugs me so much, but it does.

I have been within a 40 mile radius of home since February for medical reasons (which I hope will be ending soon!). No vacation but no work! I really want to get to the beach! Need lobster and clams! Though I get those here!

Been quite awhile since I had lobster. We did have clams, but the mussels were much better than those. 😃

The two robed guys do give off a Biblical feel.
As for holidays, there are two types I’ve enjoyed – backpacking for a month or more with literally only what you can carry, though I haven’t done that in quite a few years now, and I don’t know how well my knees would cope. The other type is when I stay home most of the time and everybody leaves me the frick alone for awhile, and I don’t have to interact with or fix anyone else’s problems or sort out their endless demands. Yeah, looking forward to one of those in a couple of months.

Ive had a few of the ‘everyone else leaves the house’ ones. My family isn’t too demanding in general, okay, the toddler, but that’s like trying to blame a force of nature. So most times it’s just nice if I get that free time to invest in whatever hobbies, but I also end up missing them a lot. An ex I had was a hardcore backpacker, but she pretty much made everyone else miserable. Someday I’ll probably enjoy hiking once again. Probably when the wife and I aren’t so engrossed with the little one.

Sorry I’m late to the party man. Happy birthday. How was the island? Did you get the sais? Did you get a giant turtle shell and some red wrist band and eye mask too? The minis are um old school to say the least haha.

Haha, not your cup of tea this time? Thanks! The island was awesome. Nice to get away and unplug a bit. Some good food, played some boardgames with kids during downtime. Lots of sight seeing. All good. I did get the Sais and a pair of nunchakus, while the wife wasn’t looking. Come to think of it, ah might not know that I bought them, haha. I’ll have to hide them from the deadly toddler, less I want to rock an eyepatch!
